The American Legion Post No. 74 sponsored this year’s Field of Flags, as it did last year. During the roughly 10-minute ceremony, Rockhold talked about the three mission objectives: to bring honor to all the veterans, provide an opportunity for the community to show gratitude to the veterans and to help family and friends memorialize or honor veterans.
“Overwhelmingly, we succeeded in all those goals,” said Rockhold. “We saw it as appropriate to conduct the Field of Flags here at the Blue Star Memorial Gardens … it’s a location that honors everyone who has served in the United States Armed Forces or is currently serving today.”
Rockhold choked up as he said there were 346 flags this year. “I’m the one who types them up … I end up researching many of the names, and the heroes that are behind me, represented by these flags.”
