That is what Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Spokesman Keith Todd said, adding that they “are still moving forward” on the replacement bridges across Kentucky Lake, which the Eggner Ferry Bridge crosses, and Lake Barkley, which the Lawrence Memorial Bridge crosses. They both cross the lakes via U.S. 68/Ky. 80.
Although a bid date and other date-specific information is not available yet, Todd said they hope to start “preliminary work” in the next year or so. By that, he means work on a smaller bridge across a lagoon on the Marshall County side so that contractors can get to the bridge site, not actual construction work on the replacement bridge itself.
There was some geotechnical drilling on both lakes a year or two ago, but Todd says that drilling was to get a general profile of the lake beds, while this drilling is designed to help find suitable places for the piers.
