July 5-8, senior offensive lineman Ryan McCloud went to Austin, Texas, for the Under 19 Team USA National Team trials. Over 150 student-athletes from 30 states competed for a spot on the team, which will compete in the International Bowl in February and the International Federation of American Football Under 19 World Championship next summer. Team members will be announced in November.
McCloud, who worked out at center and will likely start at that position for the Wildcats in 2012, said he was instructed by NFL coaches, players and scouts during the trials, which ended in a full-pad scrimmage.
McCloud, who was one of 11 offensive lineman at the camp, said the trials were aimed at identifying top-level athletes who “have good grades, character and leadership.”
