When the board met Thursday night, they seemed to be on board with increasing it from the current rate of 47.4 cents per $100 of assessed property value to 48.9 cents of assessed property value. A public hearing on the matter will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, at the school central office, with a meeting following that hearing.
“It’s not a fun recommendation,” said Trigg County School Superintendent Travis Hamby, who recommended the increase.
Hamby said that since property assessments are still increasing in Trigg County, they wouldn’t suffer if they kept the rate the same this year, neglecting to raise the tax now could negatively affect the district’s future. He said that when the board doesn’t raise the tax rate every year, the compounded loss of revenue could add up to millions of dollars.
