Rumor has it that Fort Campbell, who avenged a regular-season loss at Paducah Tilghman by eliminating the Tornado from the Class 3A playoffs, might not be up to its usual standards this season.

Tornado coach Randy Wyatt is far from convinced.

“We’re hearing that, but that’s from outside sources,” Wyatt said. “And they’ve always been a tough test for us. We know that in this class, it’s always going to be (Louisville) Central, us and Fort Campbell fighting for a spot in the (state) finals.”

Tilghman has some retooling to do itself, especially after losing receiver, safety and kick returner J.D. Harmon, who was a threat to score any time he touched the football and signed with the University of Kentucky.

Fort Campbell was hit hard by graduation, and as is the nature of life at the U.S. Army base, the football team’s composition is often determined by which soldiers transfer in and out.
