Trigg had one-possession leads on two occasions, once early in the first quarter after quarterback Luke McKenzie found Kyle Rivera in the end zone from 21 yards out.Later in the quarter, the Panthers took a 7-6 lead on a 30-yard interception return by Barrett Croslin, grandson of Ken Barrett, a former Wildcat football head coach.
The Wildcats led again at 14-7 after another McKenzie touchdown pass, this time to Chris Acree for 24 yards. Acree also caught the two-point conversion pass. But Russellville answered immediately with an 87-yard kickoff return by Zach Hines to tie the score.
“That kick return was the first time we covered one full-speed,” Trigg head coach Coby Lewis said. “David [Wease] had kicked them in the end zone earlier.”
A penalty negated a first down on Trigg’s next possession, forcing a punt. Wease had trouble with the snap, and Russellville recovered the ball on the Wildcat 38-yard line.
