At a Trigg County Democratic Party event held last Tuesday evening at the Cadiz Renaissance Center, both Eighth District Representative John Tilley and Fifth District Representative Hal Kemp seemed confident in their chances at the polls in November.

Tilley, who is running for a fourth term in Kentucky House of Representatives, says the people of Trigg County understand that there is a difference between state and federal politics.

“I think what separates local politics is that people understand that first of all, there is a difference in state government, whether it’s been trending or not,” said Tilley. “People know me in this area. They have an independent streak, you vote for the person, and not the partisan streak that might affect you at the moment.”

Tilley reiterated his point about state and local versus national politics, noting that there are than 2,000 fewer employees in the state’s executive branch. He also pointed out that the state has a constitutional requirement to have a balanced budget, but that they haven’t had to balance the budget by laying off state troopers and teachers as other states have done.
