Funeral services for Virginia Oliver, 89, of Cadiz, were held on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz. The Rev. Jimmy Stewart, Jr. officiated. Burial followed in the East End Cemetery in Cadiz. Goodwin Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Oliver died following a short illness at 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville.

She was born on May 8, 1923, in Cadiz to the late Fount Paul “Doc” and Mary Lucy McCormick Oliver.

Virginia Oliver was a member of New Light Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and worked as a babysitter for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Denford Oliver; one brother, Maxie Oliver; three sisters, Iva Oliver, Lois Pennington, Lena “Jack” Proffitt; one daughter, Mackie Oliver; and one son-in-law, Jimmy Stewart.

She is survived by one son, Roy Randall (and wife Debbie Ezell) Oliver of Ashley, Ill.; two daughters, Hariette Stewart of Oak Grove and Iva Dawson (and husband Roy) of Cadiz; 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers were Dennis and Stacey Carneyhan, Scott, Cody and Mathew Stewart and Tony Dawson. Music was provided by Stacey Stewart, vocalist.
