Emergency services discussed at Trigg County Fiscal Court

The Trigg County Fiscal Court talked heavily about emergency services at its meeting last Tuesday night, as they agreed to advertise for a new dispatch radio system and talked about the volunteer firefighter shortage.

In a unanimous vote, Magistrates voted to start the advertising process for bids for a dispatch system.

“We hope for approval by October,” said Trigg County Judge Executive Stan Humphries. “We hope to have it ironed out by Oct. 1.”

Trigg County 9-1-1 Director Stephanie Sauppe talked about the need for a new dispatch radio system to replace the current system, which she said is currently about 12 years old, outdated and unstable.

Sauppe says the system they have right now, which is called a Positron Radio System, has frozen more than 20 times in the past few months and has cost dispatchers one thing they can’t afford: time.

She also said that the current system has only “basic” telephone and radio capabilities.

Humphries didn’t say how much a new system would cost but said it would be fairly expensive. At previous Communications Board meetings, it has been said that such a system would be hundreds of thousands of dollars.
