With 5:42 left in the fourth quarter, Trigg took a 38-37 lead. After the ensuing kickoff, referees ordered the field cleared due to lightning from a nearby thunderstorm, and the game never resumed.
“I hate that it had to end the way it did, but we were there waiting,” Trigg head coach Coby Lewis said.
Trigg scored the first touchdown of the game with 5:23 left in the first quarter on a six-yard run by Jayven Jones. Caldwell answered with a 25-yard field goal by Brett Seymore and a 60-yard punt return by Dee Cain.
Chris Acree regained the lead for the Wildcats with a 26-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter, but the Tigers answered with three consecutive touchdowns – a 52-yard pass from Elijah Sindelar to Sivills, a 21-yard Sindelar pass to Joey Davis and a 31-yard pass to Jordan Young.
