Funeral services for Ernest L. Howell, 70, of Grand Rivers, were held on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, at Collier Funeral Home in Benton. The Rev. Andrew Sexton officiated. Burial followed in the Luka Cemetery.

Mr. Howell died on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at his home in Benton.

He was born on Feb. 12, 1942, in Grand Rivers to the late Wallace Howell and Helen Ernestine Flannery Howell.

Ernest was a member of the Grand Rivers Missionary Baptist Church and a member of Smithland Masonic Lodge No. 138. He was retired from Reed Crush Stone where he worked as a drill foreman and blaster.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy Sanders Howell; one brother, James Arland Howell; one grandchild Aaron Michael Skinner; and one great-grandchild, Jayden Nicole Warren.

He is survived by four sisters, Barbara Harrell of Fairdealing, Janis Brown of Grand Rivers, Rebecca Smith of Grand Rivers and Juanita Rowland of Luka; five brothers, Hubert Howell of Gilbertsville, Herbert Howell of Luka, Alvin Lynn Howell of Okla., Malcolm Howell of Benton, and Dwight David Howell of Chattanooga, Tenn., two daughters. Rhonda Henson (and husband William Keith) of Benton and Greathern Ann Howell of Grand Rivers; one son, Joseph “Joe” Ernest Howell of Grand Rivers; five grandchildren, Jessica and Danielle Howell of Cadiz, Jason Skinner of Grand Rivers, Theresa Warren of Benton, and James Shelburn of Benton; and four great-grandchildren, Zoe Skinner of Grand Rivers, Tristan Warren of Benton, Austin Skinner of Grand Rivers and Brennan Warren of Benton.
