It may have been just for show, but it’s a good thing he had the call with him that day. If he hadn’t, a chance encounter with Sports Afield writer Dave Harbour might have unfolded quite differently, perhaps delaying or even preventing the birth of perhaps the most successful business venture in Trigg County history.
The barber in Cadiz
Harold Knight was born and raised in Land Between the Lakes
“Hunting was a big part of my upbringing – squirrel hunting, some deer, turkey, quail and rabbit,” Knight said. “I lived there until I was 20 years old, then [Tennessee Valley Authority] came in, condemned the land and moved everybody out.”
Knight was a student at Golden Pond School. His hunting experience in the LBL area paid off as he later became a multi-time national calling contest champion and a goose call world champion.
Eventually, Knight became a barber in Cadiz, and his shop was a big part of the birth of Knight & Hale Game Calls.
