Both Joseph A. Robinson 34, of Wendell, N.C. and Larry D. Artis 55, of Wilson, N.C., were pronounced dead at the scene by Trigg County Coroner John Mark Vinson, said a report by Trooper Jay Thomas of the Kentucky State Police.
The KyTC estimated that the wreck happened at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday night. Thomas wrote that they were traveling west on I-24 when the tractor trailer, for reasons that are still unknown, ran off of the right shoulder and hit several trees before stopping, after which both were thrown from the vehicle.
At press time, it was still unknown who the driver was or whether either of them was wearing a seat belt.
The westbound part of I-24 was restricted to one lane near mile marker 62 well into Monday afternoon because of the accident.
