In the 21st minute of the Wildcats’ 4-0 Senior Night win Thursday over Christian County, Alexander tied the school’s career scoring record of 82 goals previously held by 2002 Trigg grad T.C. Bush. Alexander made the record his own when he headed in Ean Sholar’s corner kick with six minutes left in the game.
Alexander entered the contest one goal short of tying the record after scoring three in Trigg’s 10-0 win last Tuesday at Ballard Memorial, and his career total stood at 85 after he scored both goals in Saturday’s 2-2 tie at University Heights Academy.
“It feels good, but I had an advantage in that I’ve been a starter for four years,” Alexander said of claiming the record, adding that the team’s current undefeated record (12-0-4) means more to him. “I couldn’t care about the record more than winning.”
Now, in addition to trying to push the Wildcats as far as possible in the 2nd Region Tournament, Alexander said his next goal is the single season state record for assists, which Marshall Metcalf of LaRue County passed with his 35th helper on Thursday.
