At an open house for the recently opened headquarters for the Trigg County Republican Party, Max Sturdivant, candidate for representative of the state’s Eighth District, said he would be the first Republican elected to this district if he wins in November.

“I hope that we make history in this election,” said Sturdivant. “You know, there’s never been a Republican elected in the Eighth District in the history of this state. Wouldn’t that be great? And you know what? If that happens, and I think it can, it will be you that did it, not me.”

Sturdivant says the state is at a “critical juncture” where the economy is concerned, and that there is a clear choice between him and his opponent John Tilley (D), whom Sturdivant called an “Obama politician” who has voted against “tax relief.” He added that he gets “a little bit angry” about taxes.

Sturdivant said he won’t vote for any bill that increases the debt or borrows money or increases taxes. He also said he will “defend the unborn.”

He spent much of his time attacking Tilley’s record, stating that Tilley voted for the redistricting bill that took Trigg County out of the Eighth District. The Kentucky Supreme Court declared that bill to be unconstitutional.
