Elizabeth Gates died of natural causes at 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at Covington’s Convalescent Center.
She was born on May 8, 1926, in Christian County to the late Hoy T. and Nellie Louise Martin Litchfield.
Elizabeth had worked as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration for over 20 years. She was a member of Second Baptist Church. She had served on the Executive Board with P.A.C.S., was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and had worked for Civil Service at Ft. Campbell Army Hospital for 10 years.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Franklin Gates in 1999.
She is survived by two sons, Mike Gates (and wife Waynette) of Hopkinsville and Pat Gates (and wife Sheila) of Princeton; five grandchildren, Nacy Butts (and husband Seath), Meredith Shumate (and husband Chris), Taylor Gates, Conner Gates and Dallas Gates; and four great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Chris Shumate, Seath Butts, Roy Campbell, Rich Liebe, Dennis Tomek and Rodney Bushong. Honorary pallbearers were Don Clampett, David Smith, John Tedder and Richard Covington.
