PRINCETON – Trigg County kept the first game close but couldn’t stem Hopkins County Central’s momentum in a 2nd Region Tournament quarterfinal loss Monday at Caldwell County.

The Lady Wildcats lost 3-0 (25-23, 25-12, 25-18), ending their season with a record of 17-15.

A 5-1 run in the first game turned a three-point deficit into a 14-13 lead for Trigg. Hopkins Central regained control and went ahead by four. The Lady ‘Cats nearly caught up, cutting the gap to 24-23 before dropping the last point of the game.

Trigg quickly fell behind 6-1 in the second game and scored consecutive points only three times in the frame.

The Lady ‘Cats faced another steep test in the third and responded better than in the second. After falling behind 10-1, Trigg went on a 9-4 run but couldn’t complete the comeback.

It was the final game for senior Brittney Hallgren, the team’s hitting leader this season, and for head coach Scott Hill, who is preparing for military deployment to Afghanistan.
