“I’m not really a writer, per se,” said Reginia Wilkerson. “Every time I needed a poem for something … I’d go to my sister Patricia, who’s an English teacher and likes to write.”
Wilkerson, a native of Trigg County who was born in the Caledonia area, says the poems from her first book – “Stretching the Spirit: Poetry That Heals Brokenness” – are about God’s love and the beauty of creation. She adds that her family was “a little surprised” when she told them about the book.
Wilkerson said she was going through some “emotional issues” when she wrote most of the poems in the 62-page book, which was released on Oct. 24. She said those issues helped bring her closer to God and helped her hear His voice.
“When you have problems, you have to go the extra mile and just stretch yourself and let the Lord take care of the situation,” Wilkerson said. “Sometimes, we have to be willing to change in order for God to work in our lives.”
