The event is named in memory of Mangels, a Trigg student who passed away in 2009 at the age of 10.
The format for the event is different from competitions regulated by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association. Each weight class will compete in individual bracketed tournaments, with a three-minute period per match. Takedowns are worth two points apiece, and each match will have an eight-takedown (16-point) mercy rule.
Medals will be awarded for first through sixth place in each weight class for middle school and high school.
Middle school weight classes will include 70, 75, 82, 89, 96, 103, 110, 117, 124, 131, 140, 150, 165, 195 and 230 pounds. High school classes will include 103, 112, 119, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 152, 160, 171, 189, 215 and 285 pounds.
The event will begin shortly after a coaches meeting at 8:30 a.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students, and concessions will be available.
