On hand to receive the award were Efraim Arrastia, Friends of Lake Barkley President, and Jim Mullen, the groups Vice President. The group was nominated by Park Manager John Jordan, Naturalist Mary Schmidt and Erin Wright, of the Kentucky Parks System.
“Our friends group is a vital part of the park. Their contributions are immeasurable and this award confirms our appreciation for their efforts. It was the main consideration for entering them into the award process.” Jordan explains.
The Kentucky Recreation and Park Society was organized in 1954 as a nonprofit professional association for Kentucky’s parks and recreation professionals.
“It is an honor for our friends group to receive this award that recognizes those who have given outstanding help in the field of recreation or leisure time pursuits,” says Arrastia.
