Mr. Piercy died on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at Raleigh Court Health and Rehabilitation Center in Roanoke, Va. Family Choice Funerals and Cremations, Roanoke, Va., is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born in Trigg County and was a 1942 graduate of Trigg County High School. He served three years in the United States Army during World War II in the South Pacific Theatre, and achieved the rank of sergeant in the 199th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion on Guadalcanal. He later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting from the University of Denver in 1950.
Dean was a very proud member of Whitehaven Baptist Church in Memphis for over 50 years. He was also well known for his love of hunting, fishing, and golfing whenever time would allow. He worked for the United States Treasury for 30 years before retiring as a national bank examiner, and then embarked on a second career with Union Planters National Bank until his complete retirement.
Dean Piercy was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Joan Berry Piercy; his father, Bentley Piercy; mother, Ruth Cunningham Piercy Humphries; step-father, Charles Humphries; one brother, Robert Bentley “Jake” Piercy; one step-sister and two step-brothers.
He is survived by his daughter, Katherine Ford (and husband David) of Roanoke, Va.; two sons, Mickens Dean Piercy of Denver, Colo. and Joseph Bentley Piercy of Horn Lake, Miss.; four grandchildren, Merritt and Kasey Ford, and Lauren and Dean Piercy.
