Mr. Smith died of natural causes at 1:02 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at his home in Eddyville.
Paxton was born on May 2, 1947, in Hellsneck to James and Jeanette Brown Smith.
He was a timber cutter and was of the Baptist faith. Paxton was a member of VFW Post No. 5595 in Princeton, a member of the Rosine Masonic Lodge in Ohio County, and was a United States Army veteran having served in Vietnam.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, James Thomas Smith; and three sisters, Helen Johnson, Ruby Kuykendel and Jenny Fernadez.
Paxton Smith is survived by his wife Betty Edmondson Smith of Eddyville; three sisters, Shirley Osborne, Dona Embry and Martha Riley, all of Ohio County; two daughters, Penny Smith of Cadiz and Mary Smith of Princeton; nine grandchildren, Ashley and Mitchell Goree, Mathew and Britney Skinner, Cassie and Jesse Reed, Joshua and Robyn Harper and Laycee Hunter; and 11 great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Destiny, Haleigh, Seth, Jr., Meagan, Tristen, Trenton, Preston, Paxton and Caleb.
