To the Editor:

Not every December 1 offers you temperatures over 60 degrees at 5:45 in the evening, so we were thrilled to have it that balmy on our 5th Annual Reindeer Run 5K this past Saturday. Our congratulations to our overall winners: Evelyn Turner 14 of Bumpus Mills, Tenn., with a time of 16:42 and Sean Hurd 19 of Crofton who finished in a mere 16:20! Over 160 runners and walkers participated this year end.

We had an incredible amount of volunteer help. There can not be enough praise for all of our generous sponsors and donors. We wish we could name them all individually but the Cadiz Record is not large enough!

Each year we have more willing folks who cheerfully jump in to help. Our thanks to the men and women who marshaled the course to protect runners and walkers from danger. Our great crew who worked the finish line, the folks inside who helped with registration, passed out shirts and water and food; our timers and all of those willing souls contributed to our successful event. In general a huge thank you to all of the many volunteers who give their time to help us and thus were not able to see the wondrous Christmas Parade. Our mission for this event was to raise needed funds for Bright Life Farms as well as to offer an opportunity for a healthy community.

We are a healthy community when people take us up on these opportunities and so many did that this past weekend! ⌘It was a great evening to look out at the crowd and see so many people of all ages and from so many places. Some came as far away as Dayton Ohio! Our youngest runner was 4-year-old Kiley DeMoss of Morton’s Gap and our eldest was 77-year-old Cadiz resident Jerry Corbey. Whether they walked or ran across the finish line, no matter the distance they tackled, it was fun to see everyone’s joy and pride. Thank you to everyone who came out to help host or to play. We can’t wait until next year!
