The Trigg County Lady Wildcats recorded three double-digit losses to start the 2012-13 season, losing 61-23 last Tuesday at Fort Campbell, 51-34 Friday against Crittenden County and 74-39 Monday at Hopkins County Central.

The loss to Crittenden put Trigg (0-3, 0-1 in 5th District) in an early district hole.

Against the Lady Rockets, Trigg scored the first seven points of the game but watched as Crittenden scored the next eight. The lead changed hands four times after that, with Crittenden having the final advantage and never trailing again.

“We started off better than we did against Fort Campbell,” Trigg head coach Amy Breckel said. “The kids were more confident and played harder, but there was some miscommunication between our guards about when to set a ball screen or push through on a baseline cut. We were in the wrong spots and had bad spacing, and against pressure defense, we’ve got to understand that if there’s not someone to throw to, we don’t just throw it.”

Crittenden’s took a 31-17 lead early in the third quarter, and the Lady ‘Cats responded with a 14-2 run to cut the gap to two points, but Crittenden dominated play from there.
