Commonwealth's Attorney G.L. Ovey confirmed Friday that he has filed a motion to subpoena Trigg County Ray Burnam. A copy of the subpoena was not made available to The Cadiz Record at the time this was written. When reached for comment, Burnam said, "No comment at this time."

However, on Friday evening, Burnam made the attached letter available and posted the following statement on his Facebook page:

"Like many of you that read about this on WKDZ Facebook I was surprised today to get a subpoena to appear in court and provide my case files into these murders.

I don’t know if this will be an open or closed hearing but if it is open to the public I invite every Trigg County Citizen to attend.

When I filed to run for Trigg County Sheriff and asked you to vote for me I made a promise to you that if you elected me I would focus on Drugs, Kids, Thefts and Unsolved Murders. I have kept and will keep my promise. I will not be intimidated by anyone.

I have released information I have received about Ms. Humphries since she was Murdered. E-Mails that might embarrass some dating back several years will be forthcoming unless I am Court Ordered not to release them. I have also released information I have received about Mr Choat and Mr. Ladd. I was asked by KSP and Mr. Ovey to back off these cases when I took Office and to give information to KSP which I have done.

That brings me back to the promise I made you to look into these cases. 30+, 10+ and 4+ years is a long time. That’s how old these cases are. I am not a politician and I do not make false promises. I keep my word. I have spoke to the families of each of these victims and have done nothing behind their back. My allegiance is to the Citizens of Trigg County and to no one else. This is why I ran for Sheriff. I could not take any longer for someone telling me who could or could not be investigated.

Below is a clip I googled from the Cadiz Record dated Jun 20, 2007 where KSP asks for help in an unsolved murder

Kentucky State Police Investigators are requesting the public’s assistance in developing new leads on an unsolved Murder in Trigg County.

On June 25, 2002 Chantell Humphries, 33, was found in a field just off Wallonia Road in rural Trigg County. Mrs. Humphries, who had not been seen since the previous day, had been shot multiple times.

Investigators have exhausted all leads on this 5 year-old murder. If anyone has any information on this case, please contact Detective Michelle Kent at (270) 856-3721 or 1-880-222-5555."
