A three-pointer by Cole Gardner with 2:36 left in the first quarter put the ‘Cats ahead 15-3, and they led by double digits the rest of the way. The largest lead of the night was 68-38 after a late-third-quarter basket by David Wease.
Deonquez Nance had the line of the night for Trigg, leading the way with 32 points, a team-high five steals and a co-team-high seven assists. Gardner finished with 17 points, hitting 5-of-10 from three-point range. Wease and Dee Murphy each recorded double-doubles – Wease with 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Murphy, who also had seven assists, with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
The victory came two nights after Trigg (5-1, 3-0 in district) struggled in an 85-58 loss at Fort Campbell. Nance led the ‘Cats in that game with 23 points, followed by Gardner with 19.
Trigg was set to host Madisonville-North Hopkins on Tuesday (results unavailable at press time) before hosting the 2012 Kentucky Machine & Engineering Christmas Classic at the end of the week.
