Suzanne Lagoni of Foss Maritime said it went “as planned” and that they ended up removing 1.1 million pounds of material from the bottom of Kentucky Lake, mostly concrete and steel from a 322-foot span of the bridge that was knocked off when the bridge was hit by the M/V Delta Mariner on the night of Thursday, Jan. 26.
“All the debris was delivered to local recyclers for processing, recycling and disposal of the non-recyclable material,” Lagoni said.
Specifically, the material was taken to Bailey Port in Paducah, said McQuate, who added that crews with Global Diving and Salvage, a contractor hired by Foss Maritime, were able to pick up most of the large debris, although some small stuff may have been buried in the mud by now.
Lagoni has said that many regional companies, including Southern Marine Construction Company, Crop Production Services and Bailey Port, Inc., are also participating.
