The Lady Wildcats opened the night with a 60-37 loss to the Lady Lyons, while the Wildcats fell 72-61.
Trigg (0-10, 0-4 in district) never led in the girls game, tying the score twice in the opening minutes but never coming within single digits after a Gabby Wimbleduff basket cut the gap to 19-11.
The Lady ‘Cats did show signs of improvement, however. Despite finishing the game with 37 turnovers, Trigg was able to piece together an 18-4 run that reduced Lyon’s advantage from 46-17 to 50-35. However, Lyon answered with a 10-2 run of its own to end the game.
“We put in a three-quarter-court trap last week in practice, and the kids responded well,” Trigg head coach Amy Breckel said. “They haven’t had a lot of experience with it, but Gabby and Tahkyla (Drayton) did a good job off the bench of making some deflections, getting some turnovers out of it and forcing Lyon into a different look. And we were finding the basket during that stretch, but we’ve got to score more, plain and simple. It’ll release pressure off our guards when we do that.”
Trigg was led in scoring by Jakashea Martin with 13 points and on the boards by Wimbleduff with nine rebounds.
