Trigg County High School’s boys basketball team surrendered its 5th District lead last week, while the girls team remained winless.

The Wildcats (9-5, 4-2 in district) picked up a 68-63 win Friday at Livingston Central, three days after a 66-45 loss at Crittenden County dropped Trigg behind Lyon County for the top seed in the district tournament. That sets the boys bracket with Lyon facing Livingston and Trigg playing Crittenden in semifinal games, with the winners advancing to the district final and automatically to the 2nd Region Tournament. Trigg hosts this year’s district tourney.

Trigg played at Crittenden without starting guard Dee Murphy, and the rest of the ‘Cats struggled to find consistent offense or defense against the Rockets. Trigg trailed by 10 at halftime and, after briefly pulling within nine, never got closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

Deonquez Nance led Trigg with 23 points, and Cole Gardner added 10.

Playing with their full complement of starters Friday, the ‘Cats jumped out to a 14-point halftime lead against the Cardinals and held on through a sluggish second half to secure the win.
