Mr. Miller died on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012.
He was born on Oct. 16, 1924, in Golden Pond to Cyril and Minnie Miller, Sr.
Cyril enlisted in the United States Navy right after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, where he served in the Pacific Fleet during WWII. Following the Navy, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served for 24 years. In the Marines, he served in the 1st. Marine Division, and was involved in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Miller had extraordinary devotion to his family. His wife, Suziko, was injured in a car accident in the 1960s and was confined to a hospital bed the remainder of her life. While being cared for in a nursing facility, Mr. Miller devoutly visited her every day until her death in 1985.
During that time, he was raising their children, John and Susan, and participating as a band parent, carpool driver and chaperone in all of their activities. After Suziko’s death, Mr. Miller moved to Louisville where he volunteered at the Louisville Zoo for many years and for the USA Harvest.
In addition to his parents, Cyril and Minnie Miller, Sr. and his wife, Suziko, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Gordon Miller and Hugh Miller, Sr.; one sister, Mary Miller Bacon; and one son, John C. Miller.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Rose (and husband Corey); three grandsons, Michael and Jacob Rose and Brandon Lawrence; as well as many nieces and nephews.
