Richard Shouse died of natural causes on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at his home.
Richard was born on May 11, 1937, in Hazelton, Ind., to Marlin E. and Lucille C. Shouse. He was a 1955 graduate of Hazelton High School, where he starred in basketball, finishing as the sixth leading scorer in school history.
For half a century, Richard spent the majority of his working life in the trucking industry, primarily as a long haul truck driver transporting livestock. Some of the companies he drove for were Shouse & Sherman, Ligon Specialized Haulers and Hopkinsville Livestock Haulers.
He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His passions in life were his family and friends, IU basketball, old western movies and books, Tennessee walking horses, trips to the state of Texas, and University Heights Academy (UHA) basketball. He was a Methodist.
He is survived by one sister, Marilyn Horral (and husband Bob) of Hopkinsville; four sons, Scott Shouse (and wife Christine) of Wadesville, Ind., Todd Shouse (and wife Nanette) of Hopkinsville, Grant Shouse (and wife Heather) of Cadiz and Wade Shouse (and wife Ladonna) of Cincinnati, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, Paige (and fiancé Joey Weaver), Megan, Jordan, Nikki, Jenna, Kristian, Luke, Shelby, Savannah, Summer, Noah, Aaron, and Will Shouse, Nick Watkins and Andria Stanton (and husband Billy); three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Analiese, and Connor; former wife, Anita Shouse; his good friend, Mary Weakley; many nieces, nephews, friends and his UHA family.
