Trigg County Hospital’s proposed $7.1 million surgical wing expansion project now has the support of the Cadiz City Council.

With a 3 – 3 vote, it was up to Cadiz Mayor Lyn Bailey, and he voted in favor, so the ordinance passed. Council members Bob Noel, Gary Polete and Frankie Phillips – none of whom commented – voted yes, while Council members Susan Bryant, Todd King and Manuel Brown voted no.

“Everybody knows how I feel about it. I’ve been very vocal about how I feel about it. I’m for it, so I guess that means the motion passes,” said Bailey. “We’ve been talking about it three months.”

After months of discussion, the Trigg County Fiscal Court approved a similar ordinance when it met on Thursday, Jan. 24. Magistrates Larry Lawrence and Rick Nelson are the two Fiscal Court members on the Trigg County Public Hospital Corporation Board, with Dr. Mike Gross of the Trigg County Hospital Board of Trustees as the joint city and county member Noel and Bryant were picked by the Cadiz City Council at a previous meeting.

The Corporation will finance the project by issuing, selling and delivering $7 million worth of mortgage revenue bonds, according to the ordinance, which says the Corporation will lease the Hospital to the City and County for at least a year and for up to 40 years.
