Aaron Stevens won in the 195-pound class of the 1st Region Championship held last weekend at Christian County. Stevens picked up a 6-3 win in the final match over Union County’s Bryan Carter.
Union County, a long-time region power in wrestling, placed wrestlers in the finals of 12 out of 14 weight classes, and their entire team will advance to this weekend’s state championship meet at the Lexington Horse Park.
Stevens follows in the footsteps of his father, head coach Ralph Stevens, who was the previous Trigg region champion and the school’s only state champion in history.
“Aaron’s had a lot of success and set a lot of records this year,” coach Stevens said. “Looking at the bracket, it looks good for him to possibly make it to the finals. He just has to wrestle smart.”
