Jerimiah Kline led Trigg County’s three qualifiers at last weekend’s state wrestling championship in Lexington.

Kline, a freshman who has advanced to the high school state meet each of the last three years, went 4-2 and finished seventh in the 113-pound weight class.

It was Trigg’s best individual finish since current head coach Ralph Stevens won a state title in 1982.

“In his last three matches he had to fight from behind in the last period to win,” Stevens said. “One of the guys he beat placed second in the state last year.”

Trigg’s other wrestlers were Aaron Stevens, another third-year qualifier who went 2-2 in the 195-pound class, and Ryan Gallogly, who also qualified last year and went 0-2 this year.

“[Aaron] met Trevor Thompson from Conner in the quarterfinals, and they’re really good friends, so we knew it would be tough,” Stevens said.

Stevens and Gallogly matched their 2012 state meet records, while Kline improved one spot after finishing eighth last season. As a team, Trigg was 33rd this year, an improvement over last year’s 40th-place finish.
