Funeral services for Walter B. Futrell, 90, of Cadiz, were held, on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at King’s Funeral Home in Cadiz. The Revs. Randall Evans and Kenny Rogers officiated. Burial with military honors followed in the Bristoe Lancaster Cemetery in Trigg County. King’s Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Walter Futrell died of natural causes at 2:33 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany, Ind.

Walter was born on June 1, 1922, in Trigg County to William Wyley Futrell and Lena Jane Wyatt Futrell.

He was a member of the Cadiz Church of Christ. Walter was a retired seaman/sailor for the United States Merchant Marines and after retirement he was a bus driver for Trigg County Schools, a bee- keeper, farmer, life-long Republican and election officer for 15 years.

In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn Futrell; three brothers, Thomas, Eugene, and Jesse Lonzo Futrell; one soster, Annie Mae futrell Hutchison Weaver; and infant son, Joseph Jerry Futrell.

He is survived by two brothers, John Futrell (and wife Ora Mae) of Florida and William Futrell, Jr. (and wife Mildred) of Cadiz; two sisters, Nellie Futrell Hutchison Chilton of Hopkinsville and Thelma Futrell Freeman of Cadiz; two sons, Ricky Futrell (and wife Shirley) of Murray and Sean Futrell (and wife Carla) of Cadiz; three daughters, Deborah Bland of Michigan, Kathleen Haley (and husband John) of Borden, Ind. and Dallas Edwards of Sydney, Australia; 13 grandchildren, Angela Narramore of Idaho, Kelly Bland, Harmony Bland and Jesse Bland, all of Ohio, Ashley and Stephen Coles of Mayfield, Ricky and Samantha Futrell of Murray, Millie, Griffin and Maddie Futrell of Cadiz, Danielle Edwards of Sydney, Australia, Jeffery Mohler of Cadiz, and Josh and Joey Mohler of Murray; six great-grandchildren, Landen Kaminski of Ohio, Jackson and Jordan Coles of Mayfield, Bryce Harmon and Gauge Futrell of Murray and Liam Edwards of Sydney, Australia.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Bill H. Sumner, Kenneth Long, Donald Hutchison, Joseph Mohler and Zachary Lane. Active pallbearers were Brent Futrell, Mike Futrell, Stephen Coles, Ricky Futrell, Ethan Taylor and Griffin Futrell. Music was provided by Clarissa King, pianist.
