Bruce Nelson with Hopkinsville-based JKS Architects & Engineers presented what he said were the preliminary schematic. Although there have been some minor tweaks, “it’s within the estimated cost at this time,” said Nelson. “I think we’re still well within (the BG-1).”
The proposed addition will include six preschool classrooms, two Primary classrooms, storage rooms, a guidance office, a conference room administrative space, mechanical space and bathrooms on the eastern side of the building, and will also include a two-story secured lobby that will become the main entrance for the Primary School; the shared entrance off of Main Street will become the Intermediate School lobby.
However, Nelson pointed out that they haven’t actually designed the entrance yet and don’t know yet what it will look like.
A BG-1 approved at a previous school board meeting puts the estimated cost at $3,151,650. At that meeting, they also approved BG-1s for a $720,000 HVAC replacement project and a $760,000 re-roofing project for the same building.
Board members commented that they liked that the Primary and Intermediate Schools would be more separated.
