Youth – and lots of it – is the feature of this year’s Trigg County High School track and field team.

A year after 2012 senior Jakelze Martin qualified for the Class AA state championship in three field events and a boys and two girls relay teams also made the trip, there are more young than experienced athletes returning to the track for Trigg in 2013.

“The kids that have come out are very determined and dedicated,” head coach Kewanis Kennedy said, noting a lower turnout at the start of this season compared to 2012. “They lift weights, train and fight through everything, and I like that.”

Kennedy’s coaching staff will include Amber Campbell, who ran track and cross country at Troy University; Jim Garnett, who has coach track at Trigg off-and-on through the last several seasons and will lead the middle school program; and Margaret Alexander, a member of Trigg’s 1983 state championship team. David Shore will work with Trigg’s shot put and discus throwers.
