Sanders, who celebrates her 90th birthday on Friday, March 8, said she always enjoyed her years working at the cafeteria, and that she “always worked with very nice people who became very good friends.”
Sanders says she especially liked having the high school students working with her in the cafeteria, and that she still sees and talks with these people today. “It is a real pleasure for me to visit with them,” she said.
Born in Cadiz in 1923, Sanders the oldest child of Sam and Evelyn Cunningham Baker. She had two sisters and one brother. Her father worked in the basement of Wilkinson’s Department Store for many years. This building is currently occupied by Cherokee Antiques, said Joyce Bozarth, Sanders’ daughter.
Bozarth was a business teacher in the Trigg County School system until she retired. Her son Dr. Jack E. Sanders was a local dentist until he died in 2004. She has four grandchildren – Kelly S. Haugh (who died on Feb. 4, 2013), Steven Sanders, Kendra S. Redd, and Ashley S. Hunter. She has eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
