To the editor:

This letter is in response to the February 1, 2013 article in The Kentucky New era concerning the Trigg County Sheriff, Ray Burnam.

Concerning the Jan. 20 post on Facebook: Are you somehow insinuating that Sheriff Burnam was trying to stir up mayhem by posting on Facebook a question about the feds coming to call for everyone’s guns? You seem to be the only ones that took the post in such a way. Do you actually think the people of Trigg County are so stupid? And do you actually think that they just did not see through his “grand scheme” of trying to get attention and saving the day? Maybe you are the ones who really saved the day here by pointing this out to us all? Because I bet they clearly thought they were going to be deputized and should post “no trespassing” signs on their doors. What an insult.

You also criticized Sheriff Burnam on picking an open hearing to divulge a concern of misconduct concerning attorney Ovey. How else did you expect him to handle it when asked in open court? Give a dishonest reply, maybe cover it up? How would you have handled it? I commend Sheriff Burnam on doing what he believes is right and not “caving” to political pressure from attorneys or state police.

Personal attacks have not been your style in the past, so it leaves me to wonder where and how you all came up with this one.
