One pair of donated shoes serves two purposes; affordable footwear and clean, safe water!
Once collected, the shoes are given a second life when WATERSTEP exports the donated shoes to retailers in the developing world. The resale of shoes provides jobs and affordable footwear. Affordable shoes are a life saving tool as they protect the new owner’s feet and overall health from foot abrasions, parasites and mites. Shoes that are not wearable are recycled for things like rubber playground mulch, thus helping with our landfills.
Funds generated from the export of shoes provide water purification systems and hand pump repair micro businesses to bring safe, clean water to those who thirst. To participate:
· Gather shoes in any condition—even odd shoes without a match
· Flip flops to high heels to boots to tennis shoes – adult and kid sizes
