Members of the Trigg County Transportation Committee are looking at two options for a replacement for the Delmont Church Road Bridge: a box-beam bridge, or a railcar bridge. The previous bridge failed on the fall of 2011.

“I’m ready to move forward. One way the other, the people out there deserve it, they’ve been waiting on it out there,” said Trigg County Judge Executive Hollis Alexander.

The railcar bridge is what the name suggests – a bridge made from a railcar. When the Transportation Committee met Thursday morning, Magistrate Richard Nelson said it would be more cost effective than any other option. City and County Engineer Frank Williams said he’ll investigate whether it’s feasible and whether it’s less expensive.

The meeting was purely informational; no action was taken. The Trigg County Fiscal Court will have to take action.

If the railcar option isn’t feasible or less expensive, they’ll go with a box-beam bridge – a bridge in which the main beams comprise girders in the shape of a hollow box.
