Funeral Mass for Don Gladis, 78, of Cadiz, were held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Aurora. Father Joseph Babu officiated. Burial with full military honors followed at St. Henry Catholic Church Cemetery. Goodwin Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Don Gladis died of natural causes at 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.

Don was born on June 2, 1934, in Lakewood, Ohio, to William Valentine and Martha Helen Easton Gladis.

Don was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church. He was a retired United States Air Force veteran having served during Vietnam where he was active in the strategic command B58. He also retired from the State of Ohio Bureau of Employment Services where he was a VA representative.

Don was a member of the VFW, B58 Hustlers Association, Air Force Association. In addition, he worked with the Friends of Land Between the Lakes volunteer program, where he volunteered at the nature center and at the elk and bison prairie.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by one brother, William Gladis.

Don is survived by his wife, Mary Melloh Gladis of Cadiz; one sister, Gloria Gladis of Temple, Texas; two sons, Michael Donald Gladis and Joseph Donald Gladis, both of Cadiz; two daughters, Dr. Jean Gladis (and husband Kurt Bergen) of Owensboro, Ohio and Elizabeth Gerdes (and husband Lt. Col. Christopher Gerdes) of Clifton, Va.; and three grandchildren, Bobby, Jenny and Amy Gerdes.
