Billy “Papa” Whisler, 86, of Englewood, Fla., formerly of Cadiz, died at 10:10 a.m. on Sunday, Easter Morning, March 31, 2013, at his Sarasota County, Fla., residence.

Born on March 15, 1927, in Unionville, Iowa, Papa served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He moved to Cadiz in 1999 and worked for Hodge Construction building homes in Autumn Heights and surrounding Cadiz area with his best friend Gary Hodge. He loved the City of Cadiz and its residents and was at peace at his home on Wildflower Way.

He was a former police officer in Indiana and he retired as a Sergeant in 1972. He was a life member and Past Commander of the American Legion, a member of the Cedar Lake Fire Department, an active participant of Cedar Lake Little League and Babe Ruth; and the Baptist Church.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of sixty-five years: Helen; two sons: Billy Jr., Phillip “Mickey”; eleven grand children; four brothers: Bob, Donald, Larry, Jerry; one sister: Carol; and several nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.

Visitation and service were held with interment in Sarasota National VA Cemetery.
