Rachel Humphries died of natural causes at 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Covington’s Convalescent Center in Hopkinsville.
She was born on Oct. 27, 1929, in Trigg County to the late James Jefferson Calhoun and Ruth Cunningham Calhoun Ellis.
Rachel Humphries was a member of Parkway Missionary Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jewell Smith Humphries; five brothers, Ernest Calhoun, David Stanley Bridges, Amos Bridges, James Lacy Calhoun and Gilbert Bridges; and three sisters, Irene Bradford, Patricia Cameron and Geneva Hopson.
She is survived by two sisters, Hattie Hammertree of Cadiz and Sylvia Myrtle of Gilbert, Ariz.; one son, Steve Humphries (and Meg Godfrey) of Eddyville; and two grandchildren, Brain Humphries and Sean Godfrey.
Serving as pallbearers were Jay Jones, Eugene Huddleston, Carl McLevian, Lonnie Adams, Russ Guier and Sean Godfrey. Music was provided by Gillis Bridges, pianist.
