Last week’s annual Cadiz Rotary Auction fundraiser ended up raising slightly more than $242,000, the largest amount ever and well more than their goal of $200,000.

2013 Auction Chairman Dr. Shea Godwin said that number includes $109,500 from the Century Club, $25,000 from Foundation partners, $3,100 from the Country Store, $5,500 from Monday morning’s Kick-Off Breakfast and $11,000 from raffles from back to November.

Part of the reason for the record, Godwin said, was because Rotarians had earlier deadlines to get their solicitation lists ready. Those lists indicate to Rotarians which individuals and businesses to ask for donations, which largely go to fund scholarships and youth and senior activities.

“I really feel like as a result of that, we had maybe higher quality items than we’ve had in the past. We certainly has several new items this year that were kind of unique,” said Godwin. “We also had more items earlier in the week.”
