Just in case you have NOT heard, Ms. Amy Carneyhan’s Fifth Grade class participated in the MARS Rover Design Challenge in Lexington at the University of Kentucky.

They teamed up with Ms. Ricks’ High School Engineering class to learn more about engineering and technology and how it applies to this project and the real-world. These students participated in lessons that prepared them to build a robot.

The lessons provided project-based learning- which is simply a hands-on approach that is exciting and fun for all students. The students were able to relate how technology is used in aerospace engineering and to the technology used in their daily lives.

This approach promotes communication and collaboration by emphasizing a teaming approach. It also utilizes the strengths of each student (team member) to accomplish the goals of a project and allows student learning at all ability levels.
