Payton Croft has been named head coach of Trigg County High School’s boys basketball team. The announcement was made during a Thursday press conference at the school.

Croft comes to Trigg from Hopkinsville, where he was an assistant coach for a Tigers squad that made back-to-back trips to the Sweet 16. A 2005 graduate of Crittenden County High School, Croft was an all-5th District basketball player under his father and coach Jimmy Croft, for whom he served as assistant at Livingston Central.

Croft fills a vacancy left by Mike Wright, who announced last August that this school year would be his last as head coach of the boys basketball and cross country teams and as a middle school teacher.

“I’ve been watching Payton play since he was playing against my kids,” Wright said, speaking of his sons Zack and Zeke. “What a great young prospect Trigg County has.”

TCHS Principal Shannon Burcham said the search committee received a consistent response when asking various people about Croft.
