Trigg County’s Jayven Jones finished third in the triple jump at Saturday’s Class AA 1st Region championship track meet. Jones will advance to this weekend’s state championship meet in Louisville along with Matthew Chinn, who qualified in the pole vault.

Trigg County will send two student-athletes to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Class AA state championship track meet this weekend in Louisville.

Trigg competed Saturday in the AA 1st Region championship meet at Paducah Tilghman, and Jayven Jones and Matthew Chinn qualified for the state meet, which will be held at the University of Louisville’s Cardinal Park.

Jones finished third in the region in the triple jump at 39 feet, 7.5 inches, and Chinn won the pole vault, clearing eight feet.

Jones’ distance ranks 12th among state qualifiers’ regional distances, and Chinn’s is 23rd.

Other Trigg competitors in boys events at the regional included Garrett Brown, who finished fifth in the 400-meter dash (56.72 seconds) and eighth in the 200-meter dash (:24.24), and Qyntevis Wilcox, who finished eighth in the 800-meter run (2:18.54). Jones also finished seventh in the long jump (18-9), and Chinn took 12th in the 1600-meter run (5:33.01).
