Geneva died at 11:45 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Ill.
She was born on Nov. 1, 1917, in Hunington, Ind., to John Tunis and Jennie Myrtle Baldwin Young.
Geneva was a 1934 graduate of Ridge Farm High School where she was valedictorian of her class. She then attended Andersonville Bible College receiving her associate’s degree. She also earned a teaching certificate from New Madrid, Mo., Geneva taught elementary school for many years in Henderson Mounds, Mo. and later at Little Red School House in Springfield, Ill. and Lincoln Developmental Center in Lincoln, Ill.
She was then employed by the State of Illinois as a Supervisor and Taxpayer Assistant Representative until her retirement. She married Marco Davis Thresher on Oct. 17, 1936, in East Prairie, Mo.; he preceded her in death in 1992.
Geneva was known for being a quiet and religious Christian woman, who had high morals and a kind heart. She was a good mother who enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, reading, and jigsaw puzzles.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Felicia Thresher; her son, Delmar Leroy Thresher; son-in-law Bill Charles; daughter-in-law Catherine Thresher; and three brothers.
She is survived by her sons, Marco Doyle (wife Pat) Thresher of Cadiz, David K. Thresher of Springfield, Ill., Denny (wife, Connie) Thresher of Excello, Mo., and John Dale (wife Diane) Thresher of Manito, Ill.; two daughters, Veronica “Ronnie” Charles of Springfield, Ill. and Sherry (husband Jim) Wright of Petersburg, Ill.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lillie Ann Kunz of New Berlin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
