To the editor:

This past week, our local community had the privilege of hosting about 40 wounded soldiers and some spouses from Ft Campbell during a sunset cruise on Lake Barkley. These young soldiers have recently returned from Afghanistan where they had been wounded in combat operations. It was our community’s opportunity to say, “Thank you for your service.”

Several local people came to Lake Barkley Marina to greet the soldiers and spouses before boarding the boat. Others contributed in different ways. Dr. David Bostick and his wife Pam were gracious hosts on their boat, The Fishing Lady. John Rittenhouse, manager of Jolly’s Dairy Bar and Grill, also located at the marina, provided the food for all the guests on the cruise. The Cadiz-Trigg County Tourist Center provided information packets for the soldiers.

American Legion Post 74 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7890, both of Cadiz, donated funds to purchase soft drinks, water, ice and snacks for the cruise. WKDZ and The Cadiz Record reporters took the opportunity during the cruise to talk with the soldiers and their spouses to learn about their experiences in Afghanistan and the healing process from combat wounds.

Again, the people of Cadiz and Trigg County have stood tall in their patriotic support for the men and women from Fort Campbell. It is things like this that make our community so special.

On behalf of the soldiers and their spouses, I say, Thank you, Cadiz and Trigg County for your support.
